Where Should I Live?

Alright, here's the deal. I have exactly a week (at the soonest) to three weeks (at the latest) to move out of Neale's house and into my own apartment. I have chosen 21 apartments that I feel I could afford (listed below). I know some of these are in good areas, but others I am not quite sure. I am leaving it up to my readers, my twitter followers, and my facebook friends, to tell me exactly where they think is the best place (of all of these options) to go. I need to narrow it down to about 5-10 options before this weekend (and then further narrow it down when I go look at the places).

Below is a list of each place with the address. In each link is a description, picture(s), and map location of the place.

Clearly some of these are not in great areas, but I want to know which areas do you think are the best for me to choose based on this list. Please list numbers in the comments and reasons why (i.e. how dangerous or not dangerous they are). I need to narrow this down to 5-10 before this weekend, so I can make appointments and get this going. Thank you for all of your help!!

  1. Stl hills (bancroft & jamison) & holly hills (far south grand) are good areas. These are same price I paid in 97 when I moved here. I lived in tower grove south for 15 yrs. Usual advice of stay away from "state" streets-named after states-is good for single woman.
Seems even by price. Get a garage n as much square footage as possible.

  2. My sister lived in the place on Jamieson. She liked it.

  3. Think I would avoid 4328 W. Papin - too close to the highway.
#1 & #15 are the same building that I already commented about. Also, they are not to far from Metrolink (which I know you use for work).
If 4963 Winona is the building I'm thinking of, I would avoid it.
220 Bellerive looks promising, Probably work a look at.

  4. Personally? I'd cast a vote for the place on Jamieson. I worked near St. Louis Hills for about 6 years, and had a co-worker who lived there. I also had an ex-g/f who rented a house in that area. Never heard any complaints. The area, in general, was often described as "one of the nicer, lower crime parts of the city".

Other thoughts? Scratch Maplewood. The area has improved over what it used to be, but especially when it comes to rental properties? Many are in less than ideal shape. Maplewood has a big problem with drug dealers living in its apartments, and that brings misc. crime with it.

Also, I think I'd pass on the places located in Gravois Park. I'm sure they're reasonably priced, but that area is a little bit more "blue collar" than what I think you'd find ideal. What I mean is, if you're in the Tower Grove Park or CWE area, your idea of "art" is art galleries and expos. There, it's the local tattoo shop and the neighbor's new motorbike. Different strokes for different folks.
